WHEREUPON is a monthly interruption of autopilot, delivered through the mail.

Each issue brings thoughtful physical correspondence, something to do or consider, and something that remains afterward. It is for people who like questions, stories, small surprises, and reasons to see what happens.

The Society also has questions. Each issue includes ways to participate, respond, or SEND WORD if you like. Participation is invited, never required.

Each monthly envelope contains three recurring Society pieces. A surprise or two may also turn up:

• The Correspondence — a letter from the Society, written to be worth opening and to leave you a little more curious than it found you.
• The Field Instruction / Field Note — one two-sided piece. The front offers one clear invitation to interrupt the usual pattern. The reverse is the Society’s companion side: something useful, joyful, connective, curious, or worth knowing about.
• THE TWELVE — a collectible 5 × 7 piece created for the month: something to keep, display, reread, or revisit.
• A surprise or two — chosen to belong with that month’s correspondence. What turns up may change from month to month.

The public images show the character and quality of WHEREUPON without disclosing the month’s full subject, instruction, or surprise. Discovery is part of the point.

WHEREUPON issues are mailed around the 15th of each month by USPS. The mailing date is not a guaranteed arrival date; delivery time afterward depends on USPS.

WHEREUPON is an automatically renewing membership. You are charged when you join.

Monthly memberships renew on the same calendar date each month. Annual memberships renew on the anniversary of your signup date.

Yes. You can cancel your membership through your Fourthwall account. Cancellation stops future renewals, and your membership remains active through the billing period you have already paid for.

Yes. U.S. mailing is included in the membership price. WHEREUPON currently ships to addresses within the United States by USPS.

WHEREUPON is delivered by post, so a U.S. mailing address is required to receive your monthly issue.

After you complete the subscription, Fourthwall prompts you for your shipping address and stores it with your member account.

Update your shipping address in your Fourthwall account settings.

Please make address changes by the 8th whenever possible. Once an issue has been prepared or mailed, a late change may not take effect until the following issue.

Do not submit mailing-address changes through SEND WORD.

The first 101 paid members are permanently assigned Founding Member numbers 001–101.

A Founding Member number belongs to that person and is never reassigned. If a Founding Member later cancels or skips time away, the number remains theirs.

With each issue they receive, Founding Members are also invited to answer one additional Society question.

WHEREUPON asks for participation, not perfect attendance. There are no streaks, no catching up, and no requirement to do every Field Instruction. Open the envelope. See what happens from there.

Each issue includes its own web address where members may tell the Society what happened—or choose “Not yet, but I have thoughts.”

A member may choose to keep a report between themselves and the Society, allow it to be quoted without their name, or allow it to be quoted with their first name.

SEND WORD is optional. It also does not add anyone to an email list. Email is offered afterward as a separate, voluntary choice.

We will use the membership record to identify the correct mailing and determine the appropriate replacement or resolution.

No. Each issue stands on its own. The Society may occasionally refer to earlier developments, but you can join at any time without needing the issues that came before.
